So far, simulations have included:

  • Orientation sessions for new nurses and new physicians from multiple areas (ICU and acute care)
  • Common medical emergencies for staff from multiple areas, including outpatient areas
  • In situ mock codes (adult and pediatric), chemical exposure drills, and STEMI drills from an outside location for the Emergency Department
  • In situ mock trauma alerts for the ED and Trauma service, including paging out a Trauma Alert
  • Psychiatric emergencies (done in our Sim Room) for Emergency Medicine physicians
  • In situ codes, peri-codes, and deteriorating patient simulations for nurses from multiple areas, including procedural areas
  • Extended scenarios for nurses and techs new to the STICU for preparation in caring for an ICU patient
  • In situ special case scenarios, such as Malignant Hyperthermia cases for OPSC
  • In situ in-house adult mock codes, involving the entire Code 12 Team, including the initial response and the entire Code 12 Team
  • New process simulations, such as proning in the STICU, so that teams can practice a new process before it is performed with patients
  • System improvement and planning simulations for several areas in the new South Tower, helping those teams decide how to care for patients in their new areas and then practicing before actual patients arrived
