ANIMAL CARE AND USE/RESEARCH RELATED HEALTH ASSESSMENTS
Animal Handler/Research Related Instructions
All animal handlers and some research related individuals are required by federal regulations to have an occupational health evaluation prior to working with animals or specific hazardous agents and to have a re-evaluation on an annual basis thereafter. (Some conditions, such as working with non-human primates, may require more frequent health assessments.) Employees are to report to UVA-WorkMed and students are to report to Student Health to complete this requirement. Failure to report for the preliminary evaluation or subsequent re-evaluations will result in the loss of privileges to work with animals, revocation of ACUC protocol approval, and/or revocation of IBC approval to use or possess specific hazardous agents. A record of your visit to UVA-WorkMed or Student Health will be made electronically.
