Kathy Fowler is a native of Virginia and a 21-year employee of UVA. She holds a master's degree in organizational development and human resources from Abilene Christian University and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Longwood College. Kathy has attained National Board certification in Case Management and holds Graduate Study certification in Conflict Resolution and Mediation. During her time at UVA, she has successfully managed the roles of Clinical Social Worker, Case Manager, Clinical Liaison, Hospice Patient Progression Manager and Transitions of Care Navigator.

During her tenure she has engaged with foreign embassies to transition patients home for end-of-life care, solicited and advocated for congressional support to attain needed services, and interfaced with the judicial system to meet patients’ needs. Kathy maintains in-depth knowledge of regulatory parameters of Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services and has a comprehensive understanding of Labor Laws. She has successfully negotiated and collaborated with internal and external resources to facilitate change for patients and their families. As both a Clinical Social Worker and a Field Liaison/Navigator, she has collaborated closely with interdisciplinary teams comprised of healthcare professionals, community partners, and patients and family members. 

In her spare time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband, adult daughter, and extended family members. Her hobbies include horseback riding, hiking, and traveling.  As a spectator, she enjoys polo matches and collegiate and professional sports.
