Dexa Bone Density

Bone density scanning, also called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), is an enhanced form of x-ray used to measure bone loss and risk of future fractures.

DEXA is most often used to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that involves a gradual loss of calcium causing the bones to become thinner, more fragile and more likely to break.  Osteoporosis most commonly affects post-menopausal women but can also affect men.
