Insurance Costs

The Medical Center offers Full-time, Part-time and Flex Option employees a full range of insurance options including Health, Life, Disability and Long Term Care.

Health Insurance

Health Insurance coverage through Aetna and Catamaran.  Utilize UVa Provider Network to receive discounted copayments for certain services.   

Coverage Level: Monthly Premium Effective 1/1/17



 * The Basic Health Plan includes an employer funded Health Savings Account, and a Limited Flexible Spending Account is offered to employees in this plan.


Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance is provided through United Concordia.

Vision Insurance

A variety of routine vision services, including eye exams, eyewear and contact lenses are available through Davis Vision :

Life Insurance

A basic level of Life Insurance is provided free of charge in the amount of $25,000. Supplemental life insurance may be purchased up to a maximum combined basic and supplemental benefit of $500,000 subject to evidence of insurability. Coverage for a spouse and dependent children is also available. (Does not apply to employees enrolled in VRS)

Short-term Disability

Employees are enrolled in this employer-paid Short-term Disability benefit after 180 days of employment.  This plan provides a weekly benefit of 60% of your base salary with a maximum of $1,100 a week after a two week waiting period.

Long-term Disability

Enrolled in this employer-paid Long-term Disability benefit on date of hire.  This plan provides a weekly benefit of 60% of your base salary with a maximum of $10,000 a month after a six month waiting period. Employee has option of purchasing a higher benefit level of 66.67%.

Long Term Care Insurance

You may be eligible to enroll in the Commonwealth of Virginia Voluntary Group Long Term Care Insurance Program administered by Genworth Life Insurance Company.

Retirement Health Care

Health care coverage during your retirement years is important. That's why the UVA Medical Center makes a contribution on you behalf that provides a partial subsidy to you, when you retire, to help cover the cost of retiree health insurance. And it is tax-free! The credit is available for retirees with 15 or more years of service. The monthly credit is calculated by multiplying $4.00 by the number of years of service. The minimum monthly credit is $60.00 and there is no maximum.
