Joe Krenitsky, MS, RD

Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 1:00 - 2:00 PM

A number of amino acid and amino acid derivatives have been reported to have potential as anabolic enhances that might be useful to prevent muscle loss or aid muscle mass restoration in elderly or acutely ill patients. This webinar will review the products with reported anabolic activity and discuss the strengths and weakness of available data. Patients that may potentially benefit and contraindications to various agents will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives: The participant will be able to:

1) Summarize data for amino acids and other neutraceuticals with the potential to increase protein synthesis or decrease protein catabolism.

2) Discuss potential outcomes related to the use of anabolic strategies in critically ill patients.

3) Review nutrition and nutrition support strategies that may minimize muscle breakdown in hospitalized patients.

4) Review the strengths and limitations of current evidence with anabolic neutraceuticals.
