Financial Information

Approximate costs (subject to change) to the intern for the session are as follows:

Rental costs will be lower if two to three interns share an apartment. A contact list is sent out during the summer prior to the start of the internship, for interns to make housing plans together, if they so choose.

Interns will be expected to provide their own transportation and expenses to and from professional meetings. Car pooling is encouraged to reduce transportation expenses.

Interns will be expected to provide their own transportation and expenses to and from professional meetings. Car pooling and room sharing are encouraged to reduce expenses. 

Program Fee

The program fee is $7,500.00 per student payable to Morrison Management Specialists as all program expenses are paid by the department of Nutrition Services. The program fee may change is subject to change. Please contact the internship program director to confirm the program fee prior to applying.

Financial Aid Information

At this time, federal financial aid is not available through the University of Virginia Health System Dietetic Internship. Interns are able to obtain student loan deferments on pre-existing loans during the internship. The Program Director is happy to complete necessary paperwork and provide a letter of support once accepted into the program. There are a number of opportunities to apply for scholarships that can be applied toward internship tuition. Prospective interns are encouraged to contact private financial institutions to inquire about personal loans that could be appropriate for this program. 

Scholarship Opportunities

1. Each year the UVa Health System Auxiliary awards a scholarship (April 2017 scholarship amount was $3000) to a dietetic intern; this award is based on financial availability from the Auxiliary and is subject to change at any time. The scholarship is based on the intern's academic performance, career potential and proven financial need. A committee meets in the late winter and the scholarship is awarded in the spring. 

2. Scholarships are also available through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, state level dietetic associations and local level distric dietetic associations for students who will be embarking on a dietetic internship. Prospective interns should pursue these applications in the fall of his/her senior year as they are awarded in the spring and then applied toward tuition the following fall.

3. Morrison Diet SODA Scholarship: Up to $6,000 is awarded to recipients who attend Morrision Internships - and UVA is a Morrison account! For more information visit the web site the Diet SODA website. (Note: This scholarship is not available for the 2017-2018 Internship year. Internship leadership will update information as it becomes available for the 2018-2019 Internship year.)
